Senate Peace Corps Funding Letter Faces May 21st Deadline

Published on May 16, 2025

With a quick turnaround, we need quick, steady action to urge your Senators to sign the annual Peace Corps funding letter.

Now that the House Peace Corps funding letter is complete (Thanks to all who helped secure 126 signatures on the House letter), we turn to the Senate.

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) is preparing to circulate the annual Peace Corps funding letter, which his colleagues have the opportunity to sign. Similar to the House, the letter – addressed to leaders of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee for State/Foreign Operations – requests $479 million for the Peace Corps in Fiscal Year 2026—an increase from the current funding level of $430.5 million. The $479 million request is equal to the recommendation made by the Senate Appropriations Committee last year.

Senators only have until Wednesday, May 21st to sign this letter.

While we have not yet received confirmation that the Booker letter is circulating, we need to start reaching out to Senators through the weekend, to prepare them to respond, given the short timeline.

We need your swift, steady action as we try to approach last year’s mark when 40 Senators signed the letter. Please take action now!
