I had an amazing thing happen to me three weeks ago. Out of the blue, I received an email from a student who I had taught in Ethiopia 38 years ago in my first year of Peace Corps service. The second year I supported him with school supplies and living expenses. I had exchanged letters with him the year after I had returned to the States, but had not heard from him since until now. I just got back from visiting my old town of Kahama, Tanzania. Since I am living in Kigali, Rwanda at the present, I took the road from Rummo Falls at the border, nine hours on tarmac! The road wasnt even through when I was there 46 years ago.
My little town of 3,000 is now forty thousand, and the only thing I could recognize was the Catholic Church. Electricity flows now, except for some twelve hour breaks and I had a wonderful time being the only mzungu in town. Lots of great…
